I was actually going to write a proper post about what happened in London this morning. T be completely honest the whole thing kinda disturbs me. Not the actual act of things being blown up, but the aftermath. The hate and bile that's going to be every single front page tomorrow morning, and that's going to provoke scapegoating and racial tension ( Read more... )

I agree with what you said about the aftermath of things. It's why I'm trying to avoid reading posts on message boards and what not. There is a lot of short tempered assumptions and comments made - comments that are just angry and not well constructed.
I can't write a post about it, it didn't occur to me i should. When events like this happens, some things and sympathy can go unsaid. (I suppose that's why i'm fed up of reading sympathy posts too like you).
But saying that, i'm really sad in my heart. it is disturbing.

You're right when you say there's going to be a lot of anger. I'm not looking forward to it.

just wait - all this "stay vigilant" crap will produce vigilanties. how much do you wanna bet that muslims will be getting heap loads of shit if they go anywhere NEAR public transport for the next couple of days.

I thought the police statements ("the words muslim and terrorist are directly opposed") and Ken Livingstone's statement were great, but the press will fuck this up royally i just know it.

I think ten minues after I turned the tele on I heard the words "al quaeda", and I knew we were fucked from then on. Even before that message appeared on an apparently al quaeda website, there were the speculations. You're right about the police and Ken Livingstone though, just about ever representative I saw speaking to a reporter on the BBC coverage stressed that there was no reason to assume that al quaeda were responsible. Later I heard an interview with an Islamic minister condemning terrorist behaviour as totally un-islamic, and that under Islam there is no excuse for killing innocents in war before pointing out that Islam is not even at war anyway.

I can picture the front of The Daily Mail right now.
