Techno Babble in the Modern Thriller

Back in NC for another week. Sigh. I've started listening to books on tape during the drive, which helps a lot. I started with Orson Scott Card's Empire. It was a fun look at a possible civil war scenario in today's US. Fun stuff. This week I got Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, the first book about the main character in the Da Vinci Code. This is because you didn't watch StarTrek as a kid, otherwise you'd be able to take all sorts of idiocy at face value ;) (And I rant and gibber about social science topics, so I've no room to talk at all. . . )

At least in Star Trek they have "advanced technology" that makes it possible. This book tries to do it with current technology, which I know just enough about to say "Bullshit". If they would just say occasionally, "This technology is years ahead of anything else in the world.", and try not to explain so much, I think I would be happy.
