Not too many people I talk to seem to have heard of this, so let me explain. Every week (allegedly), www.songfight.org hosts a songwriting competition. The site admins produce a song title, and those wishing to compete write a song around the title. This week, with the title, "Thank God For Memphis," I have decided to enter the brawl. My song

History: I sat in my room alone, and wrote out the chords, melody, and lyrics, in a pretty short period of time, right after seeing the title, right before bed. I wrote the words for the last b section (right after the solo), when I woke up the next day, because I couldn't think of anything when I tried the first time. During the recording process (the day after that), we changed one line so it I didn't rhyme a word with itself. I had John help with the drums, and he also ended up contributing harmony vocals, and the guitar solo. I played and wrote everything else, acoustic guitar, bass, and lead vocal, I guess. So we kind of split the performance about in half, and we basically co-produced, but for most intents and purposes, I consider myself the sole composer of the song.

I'm like, "Sweet. I've done it. A pop song. Finally."
And then I go on the forums and get stuff like, "Lord of Oats - just lame, lyrics are lame and it sounds like you just bought the "How to make a cookie cutter shitty rock song in 10 minutes for assholes who want to make shitty rock songs" guide from Barnes & Noble. And the solo put me to sleep."
Which, I mean, is presented negatively, but I've really been trying to write a normal-ass song for a while now. And there is finally some more positive stuff, after more people are getting around to reviewing it. But I'm still not getting as positive stuff from the Song Fight! community as I am from people I know that I alert to it. I hope that'll just come with time as they get to know me, and I make more interesting stuff.
Thanks for the vote, and for taking the time to comment!
