Life in Idaho

Pohki and I went to a local gun shop today to look at hunting rifles. I was talking to the guy at the counter and mentioned that I would be looking into a shotgun purchase a little bit down the road, and asked his recommendations. His question was "For using on ducks or people?"

God, it's good to be back in the west... :)

I told this story to a few people here at work. Some found it amzingly funny, while others were horrified that someone might buy a shotgun to use for an amusing shooting spree.

I find the latter group to be not thinking clearly.

It's crazy that people would think that a licensed gun dealer would ask that question and not mean home defense. I don't get the fear and paranoia that suburbanites have about firearms. I was raised in suburbia, in a gun free home, and never fired a gun until I owned my own, well into adulthood. I have never been afraid of firearms, but I do hold a healthy respect for them. Same as for a table saw, kitchen knife, or any other potentially dangerous tool.

Yeah, well when most of the survivalists around me at work are suggesting that I buy a box of ammo everytime I go shopping to stock up, the paranoia is hitting all time highs. I just had a good yuck over what the store guy said to you. Ducks or people! Well we can safely assume that he did not tell you what to say to the people breaking in......
