Ya know

The scene is comic. I'm sitting alone at a baptist church retreat/revival, and a young boy-5, maybe 6 years old-approaches me seriously and asks, "are you sure you're going to heaven?" A minute later he flees in terror. I guess his preacher/father didn't prepare him for "i'm sure i'm not" as a response. His dad wasn't either. Now i'm surrounded by ( Read more... )

Mike, I like your attempt at trying to explain heaven and hell. I too have had troubles with this theroy of a God that will always love you and will forgive you for ANYTHING that you have done wrong. But, at the same time these same people say, that when this world comes to an end, this same always loving, ever-forgiving God is going to judge you and send the eternily damned to hell. I don't think so. I don't see how a God that truely is as we have percieved him to be will turn his back on you when you need him most. This is why I think there might be some relevancy to what you said about the christians that made it to heaven ministering to the less fortunate that ended up in hell. At least I hope there is a chance this might be possible, because look at all the people that have died at a young age. Some of them never got a chance to understand God and what they thought of their religion, I mean look at me I am 20 years old and I still do not have a clear picture on what I am supposed to be doing on this earth. I mean there are ( ... )

I had to hold myself back from jumping on a response when I first read this last night, but I realized I needed to think it out a little more before I'd make any sense. I both agree and disagree with you, Mike, although I realize that you're not fully serious in your description of heaven/hell. I agree with you that God is not going to turn his back on people when we need it most. And I got a vibe, if not the exact words, from you that I really liked -- the whole point of Jesus dying is to PROVE to us that not even death can separate us from the love of God. "Well, yes Dawn, of course that's right. Not even death. Jesus died on the cross so we don't have to die." But you're going to tell me now that my own death is going to separate me from God? No, that's the point -- death CAN'T separate us from the love of God ( ... )

i think what happened to you at that revival is pretty funny. but i feel bad for you because you had to be in that whole situaion. your explanation of heaven and hell makes a lot more sense than the conventional idea that everybody has. i mean, heaven is a place that you;re supposed to be happy, and nothing's wrong. well, how could you be happy when you know that a lot of people are suffering horribly? that is terrible, and i couldn't be happy. i know this probably sounds horrible, but if heaven is going to be like that, i want to be in hell.
