It's funny - even as Obama is making history in his innauguration, the First Lady has become nothing more or less than a fashion statement.  Every time I see something about her, it's always about how great she dresses and where she got the outfit she's wearing that day.  And all this following the big (if brief) controversy over Palin and her ( Read more... )

Why does this surprise you? Americans are stupid, shallow, pathetically simple sheep... Men=politics, women=fashion. Just the way the sheep of this country work, dear brother. It's sad, it really is, I agree, but unfortunately, I don't think it's anything we will ever get away from.

And the controversy over palin's clothes was the fact that she was using money that wasn't really hers on her personal, and exceptionally expensive, clothing, IIRC.

And yes, it IS what we have to look forward to. For the next 4 years, the next 8, and as long as there is first lady. You think it'll be any better when we get our first woman president???? It'll be a thousand times worse!

Stupid american sheep...

Not really sure why it surprises you either. It was that way with Kennedy's wife (I'd spell her name but I can't remember how and don't feel like looking it up or messing it up just to make a point). And yes, I'll admit that her clothes are nice but you're not going to find me rushing out to the nearest department store attempting to look like her. Because while they're pretty they're not practical.

Actually, I saw a news video about her inauguration fashion and she doesn't enjoy being a fashion statement. She's trying to tone it down, but eh, good luck. People need something to distract themselves these days.
