This is an interesting concept. If you don't mind, I'd like to know what the book is, as I suspect I would like to read it.
Some of this, I know, using words that didn't include "self-conviction". But I know that if I want my employees to give my "when you get a second, could you do this for me?" jobs a higher priority than Minesweeper, it's far more effective in the long-term to give them short turn-around times even for their "it's not that important, just when you have time" jobs than it is to jump up and down and stomp my foot and demand that they sit down and do my project.
However, as my life fell apart in recent years, I've slipped up a lot and dropped a lot of balls, and it feels like I'm continuously trying to dig myself out of a hole. Part of that, I'm certain, is my own attitude towards it all, especially the "if it's waited this long, why can't it wait another day [or week, or month, or whatever]" bit.
