Well, I got my first rejection letter from DAW today

If they sent it back that quickly, I'd wager they didn't really give it a fair shake. Probably just looked at the title, skimmed a few pages, and said 'great, like we need more fantasy.' I could be wrong, but I'd be more inclined to take it badly if they kept it for a while and said no than if they just sent it right back.

I have no idea. My knowledge of what these editors think is print-worthy is clearly a bit fuzzy.

that sucks. well, just keep at it...have a feeling that something will be a go for ya eventually. otherwise, pretty much agree with what Drak had ta say...
