I have just seen "Cloverfield", the much-viral-marketed giant monster movie from J. J. Abrams.

And I can say with few reservations that it is . . .

Fucking awesome!Best giant monster movie ever. It's everything that the American Godzilla wanted to be, but didn't have the brains, guts or heart

Haven't seen it yet, and likely won't get to til it's on DVD. Still, if it does inspire a monster-movie trend (and if Hollywood's proven anything, it's that they like bandwagons), I'm hoping the inevitable crapfest of second-rate knock-offs leaves some room for some true gems. We Americans are waaaaay behind in the giant monster movie field.
