I think it was mid-year, a little while after he pulled out of the Commonwealth Games. Of course it started up the usual 'is he gay' debate in the gutter press, all the gay icon stuff....it's probly just one bloke with a fantasy writing about it and going 'Hey Thorpey, look how you increase my column-inches' ;D

I think its rather good when sportsman come out not because I'm some nazi thinking everyone should be gay, but because since the tradegy of Justin Fashanu I think sport is the last arena where being gay is acceptable.
