And again I say, a month is too long between comics!!!

I FINALLY got paid yesterday, which means my account balance is now healthier than the $0.10 it was at before, and I was FINALLY able to buy Season Eight issue #6. And this is what I have to say about it:

First off, gotta get the fannish squeeing out of the way... Giles! Giles has a Faith-crush! HEE! Oh, this may very well turn out to be as good as ( Read more... )

Your thoughts are so much deeper than mine. :-D All of that imagery totally went over my head.

I thought the creature in Buffy's dream was just a fiery lion. Do chimeras represent anything? They're made up of different animals, right? Maybe it's a comment about all these girls suddenly becoming Slayers and not all of them will choose the path of good. Do you suppose, "Long live the Queen" is related to the Twilight thing as well?

It seems like the gang calls Giles whenever they need research done but don't make a lot of social calls. Is the gang pushing him aside or is Giles imposing this isolation on himself? I get the impression that he travels around, visiting the other Slayer contingents but doesn't hang around, elevating him almost to a mythical status. The Last Watcher.

Gah! These comics need to be bi-weekly. I want answers now.

That's due to my being an English Major -- my BA is good for something, even if that something is not gainful employment.

A chimera has a lion's head, a goat's body and a serpant's tail and it breathes fire. The dream-beast is a lion with a serpanty tongue and a firey mane and wings. It's reminiscent of a chimera at least. They're very deadly.

"Do you suppose, "Long live the Queen" is related to the Twilight thing as well?" If "twilight" refers to he end of the slayer line, then yes.

About Giles' non-communication, I also get the impression that he talks more to Xander than to Buffy when he is incommunicando.

Since "Ripper" is going to go ahead afterall, if it's going to fit with canon then I suppose it will take place in the interim between "Chosen" and Season 8 -- and since none of the other major actors from BtVS would really be a part of that, that means Giles would really be quite alone for that time.

Wow, do you think they're doing that on purpose: one Watcher and many Slayers now, where it used to be one Slayer and many Watchers?

Great review, I was really impressed with the new issue, too (actually more impressed than I was with the bits and pieces I read of the Whedon arc).

" shirtless Xander. He's got nothing to be ashamed of."

Well... in comic books, everyone's skinny or got washboard abs. I don't know about the real life Xander... (he did seem a tad pudgy in the last season). ;)

The Whedon arc isn't bad, but this is just so much more of what I really wanted.

I've heard Nick Brendon's gotten back into shape since then.
