well there are a bunch of *J sites based on the livejournal software, like greatestjournal and such. But that has the same problem of losing most of your FList. What they need to do is make a small program for these journals that lets you have people in your flist from other *J sites. Then you could keep your old LJ friends as they migrate elsewhere.
I'm not sure it's a problem, YET. I don't know how high a turnover your Flist has. If you prefer a smaller list where people tend to stick around, it's not going to be much of an immediate problem, since all of us can say "I'm alright Jack". It's new invitees that are going to catch it in the neck. Also, "what you've never had you don't miss" or so they say. Any new arrivals to the world of LJ are probably going to get used to it as is and just tune the ads out, as one does when watching the box. So I would say "DON'T PANIC!" for now, and watch and see how it goes.
