Reason no 4711 why I hate Tumblr

Yes I know there have always been idiots in any fandom, but Tumblr seems to make it particularly easy to share without thinking, whether it's photographs or links. And there seems to be a "repost before you think and don't give a shit" culture going on there that I don't like at all.

Every time I am linked to something at Tumblr it involves bad behavior. I'm convinced the entire place is populated by unruly children.

There used to be such courtesy in fandom, and an understanding that it's a complex ecosystem that we all need to balance our give and take in. And yes - tumblr makes it so easy. And some of them are kids who don't seem to care about whether they're getting good or bad attention.

I know. I once started a debate with some girl on facebook who had reposted some of my Pierrefonds pics and she was pretty much "what do you want, go away" and that seems to be the general approach on Tumblr!

I think it's Tumblr itself that's the problem, how it works -- it's an echo chamber that just continues to reverberate, whereas other journaling areas seem (to me) to have more original material, like our posts.

Or I'm just a grouchy old woman grrrr.

Hehe, we can be grouchy old women together :-) But I agree, I really don't like the whole concept of Tumblr at all, it just seems so mindless and boring.

I have to admit I don't understand Tumblr. But then everyone knows I can't do anything new!

Well if it's any consolation...I don't get Tumblr myself. I think it's for the unruly children only.
