Life is not fair, to be sure. As the Japanese saying goes, "The nail that sticks up is soon hammered back down again." Take care.

i try not to be too obvious... umm.. but i am a social extrovert (Ironic since I did not used to be prior to my college years)... and well.. i ahve a few things that I dont _have_ to hide.. but I certainly would prefer to... that of course makes me a potential target. Obviously.

I wish there was a way to list all your entries and the security status of them for quick review.

if you use Semagic as a posting tool, you can set the post as Friends' Only and save that as your default (Save as Defaults button). That is the only way I've found that makes all of the posts Friends' only, but you have to set that as default on all of your posting tools, I don't think you can do it on web-based LJ, though.

I hope that helps.

Maybe this is what you want to try?:

FAQ #120: Minimum Security for Future Entries:

"LiveJournal does let you set a minimum security level for all your future entries. For example, setting this option to Friends-Only or Private will prevent you from accidentally posting a public entry that you meant to post at a protected level.

To set the minimum security level of all future entries in your journal, go to the Admin Console while logged in and type:

set newpost_minsecurity level

Set the minimum security level to Friends-Only, Private or Public by replacing level with friends, private or public respectively. You cannot set the minimum security level to a custom friends group."

Anticipating your next question:

After logging in to your account, go to the
Admin Console to enter the commands.

Yes.. and Yes!

Obviously you have done more poking and prodding around this damn service than I have... I dont know what magic link or faq page mentioned that page, but i could not find any discussion of this 'admin console' from those pages.

I do very much appriciate the assistance! *hugs*

and it has been done.

Yay! Glad it's what you were looking for.

Having found the post you were talking about, I must note that, no matter what the security level setting for journal entries, the userinfo page is always viewable to the general reading public. Placing personally-identifiable information on that page should always be thought out in advance!

My employer can eat my ass if they think they can find me. I use so many fifferent handles in places and rarely if at all do they ever cross reference. I think if they did somehow make a conenction it would look like a witch hunt for sure.

I'd be interested to see the post that the person made that got them fired. Sounds like a clear 1st amendmant violation to me. If that company has deep pockets I'd bet they could find a lawyer to take them on.

I do have a restriction on what I can do regarding work but if I say they are all assholes and don't say who it is, they can get stewed.

I hope someday to have that luxury... and _someday_ I am sure I will... but I dont know when that will be.

*grin* I am impressed by the way you deal with people that tick you off... I guess 'you have balls' is an appropriate statement beyond the simple fact that you do ;)

*hugs!*

Heheh... btw.. i need to spend some time on that vid I grabbed from FC of you with the balloons... that had me laughing my ass off again tonight.
