"General Malaise" is actually a side effect of one of my chemo drugs. And the bastard has been tromping his army all over me, which is one of the reasons it's been so long since I posted.
I am so glad to see this. I have wondered what you have been up to. My own mid life crisis makes me realize what a freakin baby I am being compared to this nightmare you obviously started many years ago. But...as you said, 3 years ago you thought your anniversary was your last. How lucky and happy I am that it wasn't. I wouldn't have met you and been inspired by your strength. You are entitled to big huge amounts of Blech! Big!! Huge!! Amounts. It sounds like Thanksgiving is really hitting a bad time. When you do it for just your family, it is more relaxed because you aren't doing for EVERYONE and juggling all of that. But then, if it gives you pleasure to do it, others will chip in and help. Hugs you very close (I bet your house is far cleaner than mine...I gave up on it a while back). xoxoxo v
My house is held together by cat hair and dust right now, but we're going to get it together.
Hey, no fair comparing problems! When you have a problem bothering you, it's important -- no matter what is bothering anyone else. Your stress is just as nasty as mine, I'll bet.
Like verangel, I'm so glad to hear from you. I suspect I have suffered from General Malaise all my life, though without any legitimate reason.
I was looking through a PBS catalog last night and was thinking to myself that it's been a long time since I've watched any of "The Duchess of Duke Street".
And I also find it very sensible that you'd still want to cook Thanksgiving for you and Rich even if you don't invite others over. I've cooked Thanksgiving for just myself many a time. It gives a feeling.
Congrats on the anniversary and I wish you two many more. Rich doesn't need to be out with normal people. He's too used to you and 23 years of your abnormal ways :-)
Whatever you do, please don't go & buy "Duchess!" I'll send you these after I've finished watching - they were freebies from a friend who works in entertainment, and I'd be very happy to see them passed on. I also have some Shaw and Dickens adaptations you might like. *waves shiny freebies & ignores slur on my normality, knowing I'm the most normal person ever*
Darling, a lot of local grocery stores will pull you together a lovely Thanksgiving dinner for a reasonable price. All you have to do is show up and pick it up. M and I did it last year (when we were so stressed with our coming move to Trinidad), and the food was fantastic. If there is some little dish that you MUST have because it is special to you or you just feel like cooking something, then you could make it. And then you can just enjoy the meal and the company! :)
Anyway, I'm glad to hear from you! I told Trueriver to let me know when she's coming because maybe I'd somehow get to get up there. Shoot, I may be up there anyway (my sister's going to give birth within the next few weeks). :)
I think you'll find it very reasonably priced (for what you get, at least it was in Jacksonville), and tasty -- and you can always add little dishes on the side. And I think you can choose an amount of food based on how many people will be dining (the dinner for two is still pretty big since they usually assume you have at least 4 people dining). You do have to order it ahead of time (I can't remember how many days but it wasn't that long ahead of time). I would recommend it to anyone who really doesn't want to do all that cooking!
