I was planning to do this for quite some time now and worked on that list ever since. It was also the perfect excuse for re-reading the stories every time I needed a break from university or work! :P There's another reason: easy access. My recent computer problems (I had to completely wipe out my harddrive and re-install everything bit by bit)

Maygra's old Highlander Quill Club page was more complete than her Wordsmiths page, and included the Origins Cycle that you mention. It can be reached via the Wayback Machine, so here's a link to her warnings page: Maygra's Musings

It was set post CAH, Duncan/Kronos/Methos, set around Halloween. A mortal kidnaps D & M, then summons Kronos back from the dead. I think Cassandra shows up at the end (she had hired the mortal).

I've got good and bad news.
I think I'm quite sure I know which story you mean: "Though Lovers Be Lost" by Margaret Turner. I found it in my 'to read'-folder and scanning through it shows all the criteria you listed. Unfortunately I don't have a working link - or couldn't find it anywhere else (even with an extented google-session or the 'wayback-machine').
Maybe you have more luck, knowing author and title now. If not ... I could always sent you the copy I saved, I would just need your e-mail-adress.
