Conflicted opinions is right. The Big Ball U is definitely more "alma-ish," as well as possibly "mater-y" now that I'm not going there anymore (but, I guess it wouldn't be my "alma mater" if I were...). Heck, the entire state of Indiana brings that certain mist of longing to the eyes, *after* I tore out of town so fast you'd think the place was on fire. "No, I'm sorry. That wasn't 'grizzled.' That was 'wistful.' 'Wistful.'"

now THERE'S some ball state "football" i liked! i think i'm at the point where i still wouldn't like the muncie townies, and the football *team* was admittedly pretty egregious, but i sort of miss the quaintness of muncie and indiana as a whole, and i definitely liked the college community and the academics i got to know.

it upsets me that there are people in the academy who would assume that i got a good GPA as an undergrad because i went to an "easy" school. i took classes from the professors people were scared of. i made friends with the professors people were scared of. i made what i could out of it, and if it weren't a good school, i wouldn't be in grad school. and, as The Professor reminded me, the tenure/hiring process is in such a state that you have to go pretty far down the list to find a school without good faculty. word.
