for "NOW" in muncie, indiana:

Blizzard Warning in effect... snow...heavy at times...is expected to continue through the day. Additional snowfall accumulations of around 4 inches are likely by late afternoon. Northeast winds will gust to 40 mph at times which will cause considerable blowing and drifting of the Snow. White out conditions are also ( Read more... )

it's more like 11 inches at the moment, with 4ft drifts ... certainly not the end of the world, but also not safe conditions for lots o' driving -- especially with the snow continuing until, expected, midnight.

you're just jealous, miss michigan... ; )

and i remember that snow day all those years ago... it was ridiculous. these kids just don't know what it's like to wait 30 years for a snow day; it just gets handed to them... hehe

yeah, i've been reading that it's more the windy conditions and reduced visibility that is making things dangerous. i guess i'm just lucky to have been raised in a state where you could have 3 feet of snow on the ground and still have school, but not as much "considerable blowing."

Yours is the 3rd snow post I've seen all day--the other 2 were from Toledo and Boston. I think the entire northeast quadrant of the U.S. is getting dumped with snow right now...

yeah, pretty much. missouri has had an uncommonly snowy winter. my neighbor told me when there was about a foot-and-a-half of snow on the ground that it was probably more accumulation than she had seen *total* in her life. yeah.

I laughed really, really hard at this.

However, I don't care how lame it is in Muncie. It's ridiculous in Chicago and I'm getting bowled over by the motherfucking wind. Lame.

yeah. wind blows.

p.s. you get more snow cred than muncie anyway, because you're from a snow-belt state. and because chicago is farther north. and has a lake next to it.

five or so hours later, I am 100% ready to give up Chicago, and snow in general, and move to a Latin American nation-state. I had to wait thirty minutes for the fucking bus, during which time I was pretty sure I got frostbite. Then we didn't move more than a mile in FORTY FIVE MINUTES. So I got off the bus and began walking to the train, fell on my ass from the wind, finally made it to the train, only to fall down an entire flight of stairs once I got off said train. I broke my second fall with my left hand, which I'm pretty sure is now broken, and I have to serve pizzas tomorrow, but there is TOO MUCH SNOW for me to go get an xray.

And Loyola probably won't cancel classes tomorrow. gdf'acej89a[j38q

I'm in Oklahoma City...and they shut the city down for a few days for two inches of snow and some ice.

hehe.

!! i think my brother was driving through OK at that point for an interview in texas. he had to reschedule. i think more things should be closed for ice than for snow. when they called off classes here (missouri), there was about an inch of ice under an average one foot of snow. so not to mention these missourians don't know what to do driving on snow, they freak out because there's ice under it. every single person i saw driving for *days* was fishtailing.

Muncie plows anonymous February 15 2007, 16:56:51 UTC
Muncie can't buy a second plow because they don't have *a* plow. The town sold its plows a few summers ago [brilliant move, selling them on a probably 90+ degree day in July, while obviously NOBODY was thinking of winter] and decided that calling in private plows would be more economically efficient. Let me tell you how well THAT has worked out. As a result, streets are NEVER plowed. McGalliard is a mess, as are every other "major" road in Muncie. The neighborhoods, across the board, are unbelievable. That is why my school district is on Day THREE of snow days, because people can't get out of their houses. Ooooh, Muncie.

hahaha...muncie loses 15 points from hufflepuff. it also bothers me that a town that small can avoid plowing and can rely so heavily on people who live out in the country, and those people especially will never get out of their houses.
