Lorraine, we're all blessed by your gift for connecting us with what's real and important. Listening to people we love, even (and sometimes especially) the difficult ones. Paying attention to where our food is coming from. And sometimes just watching the rain and writing what we feel.
So true. And what I like is imagining my mom as a young woman with her whole life in front of her and the way she met the world with the experiences that shaped her. She's from Switzerland and has been telling me about her stint as a nurse in the Swiss army during WWll. Fascinating!
I'm glad you're having some special times with your mom. I know my mom has said that her last couple years with my grandma (after she'd contracted Lou Gehrig's) were probably the best they ever got along. It's almost like some relationships need that juxtaposition of roles...
That's interesting about your mom and grandma. I've heard that quite often actually. My mom was always so independent and now she's realizing she needs help. That's a huge change--she was never able to accept it before. And she doesn't have the energy to create drama anymore. I think it's a relief to her too. It certainly is to me!
