What's the last thing you wrote?
Other than work stuff, I haven’t written anything just for me in a while. Last thing would have been a journal entry, in my real journal. Outside of that, some random poetry.
Finished?
Yes, it was finished.
Was it any good?
The poetry was good, yes. The journal entry was just ranting. And I try not to pass judgment on my journal entries. That’s just me rambling on about me. No sense in trying to figure out if that’s bad or good. I’d drive myself nuts.
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
I only wish I still had some of the first stuff that I wrote. I had binders full of the stuff. However, that’s all been tossed in the trash years ago. The first more recent thing is a fanfic from about ten years ago. X-Files. Heh.
Was it any good?
For a first time, I supposed it wasn’t too bad. I got come compliments on it. It wasn’t an X-rated one, that would come much later. But all in all, I was happy with it.
Write poetry?
Often. Quite often.
Angsty poetry?
Depends on my mood, but mostly the angst-y stuff was written in high school. Although, I can angst out at the drop of a hat if the mood strikes.
Favorite genre of writing?
Does “good” count as a genre? I’m not a very genre-y person. I like good writing, no matter whether I read it in a book, a magazine, or in an online journal. Good writing is worth finding in all genres.
Most fun character you ever wrote?
Original? That would be a character from a short story by the name of Frank. I adored playing around with that character. Favorite from a fanfic would still have to be Snape. He’s far too easy to write for me, and I’m not sure that’s such a good thing.
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
I wrote a fanfic (X-Files) with an OC. Hated her. Hated her even before I started writing her, but that was just as she was supposed to be. The fic turned out great, and I still can’t stand to read any of her lines to this day.
Best plot you ever wrote?
Best? That’s really hard for me to judge myself. I’ve liked quite a few of them. I really like the plot of my most recent fanfic. However, I’ve no idea which direction I plan to take it yet. I have a bunch of ideas…
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Meh. Again, I’m a poor judge of this in myself. I’m not much of a twister of plots, unless all of a sudden in the process of writing a story, a sick thought in the back of my mind reaches out and says, “Hey… how about we do such-and-such to so-and-so?!” Then, I may or may not listen to myself.
How often do you get writer's block?
Often enough that it bothers me, not often enough that I let myself get obsessive about it.
How do you fix it?
I usually write a few short things. Poems, teeny little stories. The easiest way is for me to re-visit old characters and drop them into a fresh scene. I know how the characters will react, so it writes itself. But that’s usually enough to get the block out of the way.
Write fan fiction?
Oh my, yes. Double yes. Been writing fanfic of a sort since high school, only then we didn’t know it was called fanfic.
Do you type or write by hand?
Do you save everything you write?
Both. Depends on where I am and how far I am from a computer. Sometimes, too, I just prefer pen to paper. It feels like more of an accomplishment occasionally. I just HATE having to type everything out from handwritten.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Constantly. That’s why I try never to just throw anything out anymore, no matter how frustrated I am by it at the time.
What's your favorite thing that you've written?
A couple of poems. I few journal entries. A fanfic. An original fic. Whatever. My favorite is always the one that I just finished, and the least favorite is the one that I haven’t started yet. Isn’t that always the way?
What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
The recent Harry Potter fanfic got some very good reviews. I’ve won an award for a journal entry. How the hell am I supposed to know what everyone else’s favorites are?
Do you even show people your work?
Sure. Being online, people have access to it. The stuff that I write for me is very much reserved for me.
Who's your favorite constructive critic?
I love the feedback I get from Kyth. I also love the feedback from strangers. It’s sometimes more honest. However, it’s also sometimes brutal.
Do you have a web site for your writings?
Oh hell yeah. Diary, Livejournal, Diary-x…. You name it.
Did you ever write a novel?
Yep. And have a couple in the works.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Yep. They weren’t all that great, but I have written them.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
Oh lordy yes. Many a time.
What's your favorite setting for your characters?
Depends on the characters. I don’t have a “favorite” setting that runs from one work into another. They’re all set where the story dictates.
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
I used to say fanfic. So much for that. I haven’t written any slash. But that’s not a never, that’s a not YET.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
About five or six.
Do you want to write for a living?
I’d love to.
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Yes.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Yes.
Ever written something in script or play format?
Yes. And that was a fuck of a lot of work.
What are your five favorite words?
The ones that I have to think about for a long time, and then suddenly come to me. The one’s that make me say, “YES!” Those are some great words. Too bad they’re all different. Heh.
Do you ever parody?
Yes, but then it’s usually to song lyrics.
What's your favorite thing to parody?
Uh, like I said. Song lyrics.
Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?
I love music. I just think it’s fun to turn lyrics into my own little bitchy creations.
Do you ever write based on yourself?
Sure I do. What writer doesn’t? Not all the time, and not at all consciously at times, but I think that this happens a lot.
What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
I’ve written a few things where the characters ARE myself. So I’d have to say those ones. Hee!
Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
People I know, people I dream… Sometimes they are based on parts of me, and parts of others. And then sometimes out of the blue one will come to me.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Yes. A lot of my poetry is based on dreams.
Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
If it’s true to the story and the characters, then it doesn’t really matter to me. Just leave the Deus ex Machina out of it, please. That gets old and tired after a while.
Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?
Not consciously, no.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Very much so, but only if it isn’t impeding actually getting the ideas out onto paper or screen. Sometimes, I just need to get the ideas out, and work the grammar out later.
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)
I’d rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue.
Entirely in L337?
I don’t know what this is, so I’d have to say no. And it looks annoying.
Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?
Most likely.
Does music help you write?
Sometimes. Sometimes not.
Do you have a weblog or livejournal?
Duh.
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
Some people are. Others not so much.
Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.
Nothing comes to mind right now… Nothing not x-rated, anyhow. ;)
