Thanksgiving: The Forgotten Holiday

Nov 07, 2007 09:33

Thanksgiving has always been, and perhaps always will be my favorite holiday.  Even with the shadow of horrible Native American relations looming over it, for me personally it's always been about sitting around a ginormous table with my immediate and both extended and extending family members.  That's always been for me the thing I was thankful for ( Read more... )

well, the other day on the way home i noticed a yard that had a giant inflated turkey wobbling around, so there are definitely some people on board with you on the love of teh turkey day. as for me, my favorite holiday has just passed. bye bye halloween..see you next year :( i wish i would have got to go out to a halloween party this year, but alas, there were none to be had. weep weep. i just resigned myself to dressing up as a pirate while i passed out candy.

I'm sorry there was naught a Halloween party to be had. Jess and I were also sans-party. We didn't even get Trick-or-Treaters. All in all, one of the lamer Halloweens I've had. Though, considering how awesome some of the Halloween parties we've had have been, it's not surprising that at some point we'd have to have a drop off.

I like Thanksgiving a lot more now than I used to. My relationships with the members of my immediate are in considerably better shape than I thought they were growing up. It's also always been an excuse to go home and see everyone, and since I started college, that means a lot. I have siblings who, with the exception of the summer, I have really had very little contact with. Which is why one is now 9 instead of 4, and I can't believe it ( ... )

That's so odd to me to try and imagine not being completely emeshed in your family's lives. Even down here, I probably talk with at least one sibling every week or so. That is what I love about Thanksgiving, though. A lot of people get the same thing with Christmas, but it's also cluttered in with the whole gift-giving/receiving. Thanksgiving is purely about quality time.

As for making a meal out of mashed potatoes and stuffing, I know you can make that a meal. Hell, how many trips to Lil Chef were there to dine solely on mashed potatoes and french fries. But since I know it does take some of the zip out of it (I apologize for ensuing sass) well, that's what you get for turning your nose up at tasty tasty bird flesh.

I do not believe that was a heartfelt apology for the sass!
