hey! so I was just looking at livejournal and I have literally just gotten back to my apartment after a lab in mammalogy which had several examples of penis bones! Really! They are called baculum and rodents have them and some carnivores do, and other miscellaneous animals. They serve no purpose and can be pretty varied. Raccoon's have one's that look like shepherd's crooks, all curvy on the end. See since they are so varied, they get used as identification. Maybe that scientist was trying to figure out how they evolved. That bone is also called os penis annnnd generally there is a female equivalent called the os clitoris. I am so glad I could help.
