A King and her Captain
Outside, a storm was battering the ramshackle sanctuary of Shipwreck Cove. Tucked away inside a decaying sloop, a King and her captain laid buried in blankets and furs, oblivious to the weather outside.
With her head resting on Jack's chest, Elizabeth listened to the beating of his heart. Jack lazily twirled her hair in his fingers admiring the way it shone golden in the candlelight. The sight reminded him of advice he had once given. Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate. Jack smiled to himself. Had he known then that he would learn to take his own advice? Funny the way things worked out.
Elizabeth lifted her head to place a kiss where she felt the thumping of Jack's heart. "When did it happen for you?"
Jack answered without hesitation. "When you handcuffed me to the mast of my own ship, leaving me for dead."
"Jack, that's terrible!" she replied through embarrassed laughter.
"I thought to meself... Ah, I've been so blind. This person before me is not just some lovesick girl, she's a woman. A woman not afraid to seize hold of life and do what she thinks is right. A pirate. An equal. It was an awful feeling to discover love only moments before my demise."
"I'm so sorry." she said, lowering her lips to his.
"Don't ever apologize, love. We wouldn't be here now if it weren't for your quick thinking. Now, it's your turn for soul-baring. Come on, let's hear it."
Elizabeth sighed, letting her weight fall on him. It was such a relief to be able to be this way with him after everything they'd put each other through.
"Honestly, I think I've always been a little bit in love with you." she confessed.
"Only a little?"
"More and more each day."
"I am rather dashing, aren't I?" he asked with a grin.
"Incorrigible."
"You love that about me." Jack replied before pressing his lips to hers in a searing kiss. His nimble hands sought purchase of the treasure below.
I do, Elizabeth thought, her heart full to bursting, Oh, but I do. As they made love once more, Elizabeth vowed never to lose Jack again.
