One second Ben was being cornered by a very angry guard, the man’s ray gun thing entirely too close to Ben’s head for comfort, trying to figure out how in the hell he was going to get out of this one, and the next second the man was dropping down to the ground, unconscious.
Ben looked at Polly and thought that in all the universe, there wasn’t anyone quite like her. “Look at you getting your hands dirty, Duchess.”
Polly frowned, letting the rock slip from her fingers. “Someone seemed to be in need of a rescue.”
“And a very fine rescue it was.”
Polly’s frown deepened. “I wonder if I shouldn’t have bothered.”
“Aw, don’t be like that,” Ben said, trying for a winning smile. “Think how boring all this time and space would be without me.”
Though she looked unconvinced, Polly’s mouth twitched like she was thinking about replacing her frown with a smile, at least. That had to be progress. “Come on, let’s find the Doctor.”
