The Kommandant had taken the oath to the Fuhrer. But within that oath, Karl had done what he saw as a higher duty: to act as an officer of the Wehrmacht should. Thank-you!- and it really must have been a nightmarish time for decent men caught between duties. I'm fairly sure the Kommandant's wife was a comfort to him after the war, and made him see how little chance he had of changing history, and how many lives he saved at the castle, because with Major Mohn in charge? OMG.

Thank-you - I'm glad you like it, and especially that you think it rings true! And thank-you for the prompt. I saw that series so many years ago and loved it, and it's still fresh in my memory, and the Kommandant most of all.

Thank-you - I saw the series mumble-mumble years ago, but the Kommandant is the most memorable character for me; I'm pleased you think I got him right!

The second series helped get me through double Physics first thing on Monday mornings, so I have fond memories of it. But I really must order the box set and do a full re-watch; it'll be interesting to see just how much I do remember. Next pay-day, I think!
