Lilly's Mint Brownies

Oct 08, 2007 16:17

I don't really bake all that often, and when I do, I pretty much only bake one thing.  My mom's (Lilly's) mint brownies.  This is the only recipe I've ever asked my mom for, because when the need to bake arises, there's no point in baking anything else. ;)

My mom has a similar recipe except it calls for crème de menthe as the green layer. Quite tasty.

Hmm, I should try that. And perhaps some rum in there somewhere too. Cuz what recipe can't be improved with liquor?

Sweet! Now I can make my own toothpaste brownies. :)

Just don't get confused and use the green stuff as toothpaste; I can't imagine something with 2 cups of powdered sugar would help prevent cavities. ;-)

I was thinking I might skip the mint layer and try the rest of this, if you'd be up for eating some of the experimentation. But I'm _not_ gonna make a whole pan of brownies and eat them alone...

I've also tried doing it with orange extract instead of mint... I wouldn't recommend it. It was suggested that a layer of marshmallow fluff might work pretty well though. Or you could make some sort of coffee flavored layer using Kahlua. Or maybe some sort of raspberry layer would probably be good too. I think the only issue would be picking something that'll solidify enough to hold the top chocolate layer in place.

You should just fill your suitcase with brownies. who needs clothing when there's brownies!

That recipe is just like my mom's! Also the first recipe I ever asked her to email me.

Perhaps it's a Jewish mom recipe? Passed down through the generations, since the time when chocolate syrup began...
