The Sarge/John/Kid backstory came as a surprise, but it makes total sense to me! In fact, I'm thinking about adding it to my personal Doom-canon. ;)

I think that is my favourite sentence, maybe even in the entire fic. It's so simple but conveys John's entire story in a nutshell.
