is it possible for me to vote in person somewhere here in raleigh today since my absentee ballot for mecklenburg county didn't come in time?

You may want to call the toll free number, but I believe that you should still be able to vote the provisional ballot (Presidential race) if you sign an affadavit confirming your identity. It also holds as your statement for only voting once (meaning it affirms by your signature that you did not vote by absentee ballot or anywhere else.)

Good luck, and let me know. It's worth a shot! Mid-Afternoon should be the least busy time.

I also wanted to pass this on:
http://www.moveonpac.org/votingfaq.html

Here is what it says:

Can I vote if I never received my absentee ballot?

If you are in your home town, just go to your polling place and explain the situation, and you must be permitted to vote. If you can’t go to your polling place, contact your County election officials, or go to http://www.ourvote.com/ for more information.

That's a good website (ourvote) as well.

Here is the best 800 number: Call 1-866-OURVOTE

voted this morning... i was actually a little disturbed. they just asked me my name and address, didn't ask for ID or a registration card. i could have gone as my neighbor, or anybody whose name and address i knew that was in my district.

but i did my part.

Did you have to sign the confirmation card? It should have verified your address, confirmed that you are voting in the General Election and notified you of the possibility of felony charges for misinformation or voting twice?

I know they are also using those cards for states with electronic voting as well.

Yeah they should, I've never been checked in NC before come to think of it, and I've voted every election/primary since I turned 18.
