life and/or travel insurance

It's a tricky thing getting insured to sail the Atlantic. If you've naively tried to contact the Post Office, whom you've found to be good for travel insurance in the past, then you'll be disappointed by the reply when enquiring regarding transoceanic sailing: No, no way and not possible with any of the extra fee based services. - apparently it's ( Read more... )

It's looking like that's my only option. After another meeting with them today the system declined the application due to the premium not being big enough: I.e. the information that it had right from the start...

...This is why people think computers are crap, it's because of shoddy software like that. The lady was very apologetic and pretty good about the whole process but I simply cannot have short term life insurance cover for this trip :/

Ah well.

it's not so much the computer systems - since it is after all pretty much impossible to program in every eventuality, but the reliance on them in my opinion. It's like when I got back to the UK, It was damn near impossible for me to get credit (which meant no mobile phone, landline and other stuff), despite being able to prove an excellent credit history in Germany and Ireland and having a well paid job. Recently we've had the same thing - refusal of an overdraft extension because we just added Lisa to the bank account even though again, I can prove an excellent credit history. Every time I get people saying they can see I am trustworthy, but the computer won't let them. With my building society on the other hand, where there are actual humans in the decision making chain, allowances can and have been made, over and over.

I hope you don't die either. I'd be upset for a whole afternoon!

Good luck sorting it all out in any case!

Insurance is ridiculous. I am ethically against it. It's like gambling, and when you think you've 'won' (by losing horribly) some fucker comes and points out some small print you missed when you signed on the dotted line.

If you die at sea the fishes can eat your body and you'll save on funeral costs. If you get horribly injured at sea and have to pay hideous amounts of money for an helicopter you'll wish you were dead anyway.
