lately i've been pretty busy spending time with people, going to parties and such, but oddly i find myself feeling more lonely than when i'm alone. not sure why that is, but it sure is an empty feeling. i think maybe i just need to spend some time outdoors, soak up some sun. oh god, i just had a wonderful vision of a blissful afternoon laying in ( Read more... )

Aye, it's happened to me - you have minor interactions with a lot of people, and there's this seemingly contradictory sense of isolation. I think it has something to do with the depth of contact - I mean, if you're at a party with a lot of people, there might be all sorts of cool conversation going on left and right, but do you ever really connect with any one person?

Maybe that's what your missing. In the flood of light contact, the lack of deep seems even worse?

What to do? Hmm... have a really, really long talk with someone cool you'd like to get to know better. Hang out with a small handful of close friends... even just one or two. Watch a good movie with someone and talk about it ("Waking Life"? Or hell, just laugh your ass off at some MST3k.)

And try to find a good balance between strong interaction and light socialization, one that's good for you.
