[[I was bored hope you don't mind if I jump in ^_^]]

Shannon stopped singing and looked down, blushing slightly. She wondered if Sayid would say something about her french or maybe her singing. She should be a little good or that was money well spent on an instructer who kept insisting she had "natural talent". She sighed and looked towards Kate as she sat by the fire playing with what looked like a tiny airplane. She wondered why Kate wasn't with Jack or Sawyer. It wasn't any of her buisness she knew, but Shannon had always been the nosey kind even if she didn't like to admit it.

Standing up she looked at Sayid and half smiled. "I'll be right back." She turned and wrapped the pink shawl she had around her arms, hoping to block out the cold she seemed to always be feeling.

She sat on the ground a few feet from Kate, glancing up at the woman and hoping she could figure out why she was sitting by herself. "What's with the plane?" She raised an eyebrow and leaned foward slightly, hoping Kate would tell her something about it.

Kate felt her before she saw her. Her eyes looking up, straight ahead as she felt Shannon sit down.

"It's just something of mine that I found," her tone was soft, but calm- a tone she had mastered around most people. She could feel her still staring. Kate always knew when someone was watching.

"Was that you singing?" she quickly changed the subject, tucking the little airplane away, turning only her head to glance at Shannon. Her hair blew behind her as the fire crackled louder. It was a rare occasion, having an actual conversation with Shannon, and Kate couldn't be sure why now, of all times, Shannon had chosen to attempt small talk. However, with her current situation, Kate wasn't going to turn down a nice distraction.

Shannon pulled her legs up to her chin and nodded, she didn't know what else to say.

"Why aren't you with Jack? Did you guys get in a fight or something?" She regreted saying it but didn't take it back. She wanted to know, but if Kate didn't want to tell her she wasn't going to badger. Boone would have expected less.

Kate laughed lightly under her breath. She wasn't sure how to respond to Shannon but she felt she at least owed her the partial truth.

"I wouldn't call it a fight," she smiled weakly. It wasn't REALLY a fight. More like...Jack screaming at her and then leaving. She licked her lips, sighing and brushing a strand of hair back, "It doesn't matter. What choice does it have but to blow over, out here?"

She pulled her knees tighter against her chest and looked back toward the fire.

"How are you holding up?" Kate wasn't exactly sure how to achieve small talk with Shannon. So, she didn't feel as lame as she should of asking this.

Shannon sighed and shook her head as she thought of all the answers to that question.

"Just great considering the fact we're stranded on an island, nobody knows where we are, and I've been having to eat nothing but boar and fruits for the past week. How about you?" she couldn't help but smile slightly, it was kind of sad that they were in a predicament like this, but it was times like these that Shannon had to laugh.

Kate pondered Shannon's response for a minute. It was true. How could any of them be holding up? She sighed lightly.

"I've been worse..." she spoke softly, hopeful. It was almost as if she were trying harder to convince herself than Shannon but she didn't think she noticed. Kate licked her lips, feeling the slightly cracking skin under her tongue before she looked to her again. "You seem to be getting pretty close with Sayid. Have you guys figured anything out?"

She couldnt be sure but she thought she heard something about notes from the french woman and the thought of solving the mysteries of the island was almost enough to make her grin.

"I for one could stand to get off of this island..."

Shannon laughed and nodded.

"I think we all could." She remembered the fish song and sighed, she highly doubted that would help them get off the island at all, but at the same time who knew? Finally she bit her lip and turned away.

"What do you think about all of this?" Shannon waved a hand around and shook her head once more "Hiding from polar bears and some crazy guy named Ethan. Claire missing and Charlie almost dying. This island is just one bad thing after another." She didn't know why she asked this, maybe she was hoping someone could make sense of it for her, answer questions she never asked because no one seemed to care.
