I found it on a site I frequent, Common Ties (www.commonties.com). Most of the time, the site is about asking the world questions and posting the responses in an artistic sort of way. But every now and then, like this entry, they come out with a much longer story.

So is that an "artistic" story or a real Vietnam vet's recollection of a real event?

All the stories are real, including the one I posted. By artistic, I meant that the stories are usually accompanied by some sort of artwork related to the story. One the website, this story was accompanied by a photograph taken back when the storyteller was still in Vietnam. So yes its a vet's real recollection of the event.
