I love Annie and I love the way that she won her battles without ever losing her dignity.
Also, the quote from your post title is one of my favourite quotes from any tv show ever and I loved how it mirrored what happens in 2.8. "We all feel like jumping sometimes, Sam. Only we don't. Me and you, because we're not cowards." In the first episode as well (at least I think it was) I also love the quote about her cousin who suffered from depression and she says something about "you know what, he got better and things looked brighter again." It was something like that.
i love annie too, which is weird because she's not the sort of character i'm usually drawn to. but there's something extremely lovely and warm about her. she's strong without being obvious about it, and wise - similarly. and she's got a lovely smile, and a quiet sense of humour. it's brilliant that sam has her to complement what he has with gene. that's some very clever writing.
Yes, you're quite right. It is so well done, Life On Mars. And also there's something about Liz White - she is of course pretty gorgeous, but comes across very much as someone I believe is a 70s girl, and also someone I might meet, and not at all film-star ish. I find, when I think about the US making their remake, that I more upset about the idea of Annie being yet another blonde than about even Gene and Sam.
