I finally got around to reading one of Heyer's mystery novels and I loved it. These icons are timely and they look great, thank you!

Thank you! I have to say I do prefer her historical comedies, but some of the detective ones are v entertaining too. :-)

She wrote comedies? I thought they were all serious Regency romances! (Unless it's Jane Austen I'm not much of a Regency fan so I didn't look closely at those.) Which ones should I check out?

Heh, they're all comedies. She definitely doesn't do much in the way of serious romance. There are a few slightly more serious novels, but they're usually non-Regency (Royal Escape, The Conqueror, Simon the Coldheart, My Lord John). As to the rest, most of them are good fun.

Try Cotillion, The Grand Sophy, Frederica, Arabella, The Talisman Ring, Friday's Child, The Corinthian, The Quiet Gentleman, Sylvester - or most of them really. (But NOT Powder and Patch.)

She started writing quite early, so her first novels (The Black Moth, These Old Shades, The Masqueraders are a bit different in feel and I do prefer most of her later stuff, just for not. And the last few do feel a bit like repeats, but otherwise she's very entertaining.)

Thank you! :-)

And, aw, I hope you enjoy it! It is fun, although I always feel there is something different about the tone of that one - the romance is slightly more sentimental, perhaps? Tho' I like the characters involved. But then I wonder if I am unduly influenced by the fact it's my only Penguin Heyer, so my brain insists it's Different, when it isn't...

i am enjoying it very much when i read it - but i keep using my reading time to stare at a word document and occasionally add words to it. hopefully when the fic is done, the reading will follow more. also - i am thinking of taking some days off in the near future, so i might use them to do a bit of reading.

i found it quite heard going for the first few pages, because some of the sentences were so long and had multiple semi colons etc, but after a few pages it became incredibly easy and i couldn't remember what my problem was. it's good stuff, anyway. i am indeed enjoying it.

also- no two of my heyers are the same at all! although we have some quite nice elderly hardbacks (the nonesuch and... venetia, i think), which look vaguely the same. but are in fact - not.

Not awake. Have to go feed cats. Will probably download some later. Am waffling on "Haunted by waistcoats", because where would one possibly use it? ;P You have a knack for that.

Thanks. i can't resist icons like that. They may not be useful, but they are amusing in their own right, so, that's okay.

You know, I want at least half of these. Waistcoats, Romantic, Queer Tale, it makes me feel sick.

I shall ponder, and snag one. Or two. But no more. I am resolved.

Thanks! :-)

I may have a memory stick with lots of icons on - those I've made, those that were so pretty... far too many to use at once, but handy to go back to when I need a change.

I see your resolve-face, though, yes.
