What the fuck was that? How can I fucking disappear when I don't have anywhere to go besides death? How does that work exactly? Because it sure as hell wasn't Heaven -- or Hell, for you smartasses.
Pretty much nothing. I remember feeling like I was ripped away to somewhere else, but that's it. Now I'm back like I was just in a daze. I'm still missing the point. I wouldn't leave you without saying goodbye, Rex. Not if I had a choice. Know that.
[He switches to voice to laugh at that and respond with incredulity.] You're kidding me.
I know, but you don't always... [Have a choice. UGH NOW HE'S THINKING ABOUT DUKE AGAIN. Rex decides to focus on the comedy of Hoffman's vampirism instead.]
Oh, I wish I was. [He laughs.] He's babbling about his new family with Dracula now.

[Costigan was, he believed, understandably paranoid, having just been ripped away from the Barge for some indeterminate period of time with no memory of where he was or what he was doing -- if anything. The inmate was glad to find his knife still nestled at his lower back like always. The first thing he had done after making a note was to pop two more of the painkillers he wasn't certain he still needed. When he heard the knock at his door, he hid the bottle in the nearest drawer and frowned as he approached.]
"Who is it?" [He called out, sounding not quite like himself.]

"It's Dick." [He was trying to keep it together, but his voice cracked a little, betraying how emotional he was about all this. As soon as he'd saw the message, he'd dropped everything he was doing to run to Costigan's room, and the relief that he was back was almost choking him. He'd seriously thought he was dead.]

[Costigan's frown deepened at how emotional his warden sounded. It wasn't normal for Dick to be this choked up about anything. The inmate had been gone for awhile, sure, but Dick's item should have told him how long -- unless he was gone for a lot longer than he realized. He opened the door a crack, suspiciously starting out at the man who could very well be David or one of the other inmates.] "Where are your parents living now?"
I wasn't anywhere and my warden's item stopped reaching me. He's not my warden anymore. It could be a coincidence, sure, but it might have been because I was fucking dead.

And you didn't miss much. It's been quiet. [Pause.] Hoffman's a vampire now.

How long it last for you?

But I left and came back and didn't even know I'd gone.

You mind if I take a week off before I come back to work?
