THE REVIEW!!
The Cake Is A Lie was going to be a bit different in the fact that this time I wasn’t going to be associated with Ron much but rather a whole new group of people we met at Club Firestone months ago and are just now coming around to hanging out with Blitz Kid and myself more often. Last Tuesday I had hung out with these newcomers all day and night and really got the chance to bond with them to the point they were now a part of our main group. I was excited. Blitz Kid did not share the same enthusiasm for the days leading up to this rave because the price was 20 bucks per person or 60 bucks for a carload….which never made sense to me, because he is from Los Angeles where they charge 35 bucks for a rave normally and the one time they charge a bit more than the normal 10 bucks he feels he doesn’t want to spend the money for it.
That quickly changed however when Ron said he was actually helping throw a new section of the party called “….But The Brownies Were Delicious!” and thereby could get us on this guest list as VIP members…which wouldn’t have to pay to get in! Having said that, everyone was pretty much ready and able to go, and we all wound up meeting at Lindsay’s house around 2 in the afternoon. Yes I said “Lindsay” as in my girlfriend. She was actually going to a rave with me! She normally doesn’t go, a few past mishaps with rotten and shady dance scene people kinda screwed her on the whole party ordeal and even though she likes dance music she’s got quite the social anxiety about going to places like this now. After going out with me, she’s been slowly but thankfully coming out of that, and she wanted to go to this rave as a sort of preparation for what she really wanted to try out ---Monster Massive this October.
Jessica, Doeg, and Wesley -Three of these new rave kids I was talking about-arrived at the house all ready to go to the rave, and Jessica brought some neat little rave accessories for my girlfriend to dress up in. So while we all waited for Lindsay to get ready (which takes awhile because we kept distracting her and she gets easily distracted like me) Jessica decides to start drinking 99 Apples and 99 Bananas while Luis and I ran off to grab food and more raver toys. By the time we got back she had taken a butt load of shots but wasn’t drunk…yet.
Once Lindsay finished Jessica and her hung out and played around with my camera while the guys all figured out the info on how to get to this place. It was going to be a long drive, all the way down to Plant City, Florida from Altamonte Springs! This drive was pretty ridiculous but rather fun for the most part. Wesley drank a bit in the back trunk (there was no room for him anywhere else) and a very drunk Jessica picked on Doeg the whole way there. We stopped at a gas station at one point and when we left Luis didn’t realize he got back on the highway in the wrong direction until like 15 minutes after driving the wrong way haha.
Finally getting to Plant City and finding this party was no picnic either. I was calling Ron up asking what to look for and all he kept saying was “A CAKE. It’s a Cake man. Just keep your eyes open for a cake sign.” It was literally a piece of purple cake made out of wood not two feet long hanging from one of those very common for sale signs. We must have passed it like three times….and Blitz and I have even been here before!
We get in and Ron gets us in for free like he said and even hooks us up with these neat little lanyards that light up to indicate we were VIP. We got there just as the sun was setting around 8pm (after leaving for it around 6:30 or so) and there were already quite a lot of people there since it’s opening at 6pm. We ran into Babydoll, Kevin (DJ Psychodelik), Noah, That Angelo guy I always see at parties yet don’t really know him, Justin, and even Freaky Frank all within a span of like 15 minutes. Most of them went to Revolution, the rave at this very warehouse-in-the-middle-of-a-cow-pasture venue less than a month ago, but like them we weren’t expecting how much it would improve…
The inside was AIR CONDITIONED! Last time this venue was used it was hot as crap inside. Literally pools and pools of sweat dripped off of anyone and everyone in there. Quite a lot of people still danced as hard as they could and that made things even HOTTER in there! This time, it was a pleasant temperature. Still kinda hot, but only enough to break a sweat when you danced…not pour sweat out of every orifice just by standing around like last time! It was a blessing indeed! They also redid all the lighting in the area so you can actually see the DJ and even added new lights to where the warehouse looked like some kid’s tricked out room. (Actually, that room used to be mine haha). The speakers were the same, but the joys of this particular warehouse was you can’t hear any outside noise because of the way the sound bounces off everything so it was perfectly fine in there. But get this---The inside warehouse played the ENTIRE night---NO BREAKS! That’s right. I shit you not. A Florida party that has MORE than just breaks! The inside played first a bunch of Jumpstyle/Gabber/Hardcore, then some Hard Trance, some House Music, and Electro. It was really great!
They took all the breakbeat and DNB and moved it outside under the HUGE area of the warehouse where hay is usually stored under this large awning. This area, this new 2nd area of the rave was called “….But The Brownies Were Delicious!” naturally, given the state and how AMAZING the Breaks artists are out here, this was the most crowded area. And it was no wonder either, the DJs out here were fantastic. The only downfall I had to the area was you couldn’t dance like you could inside the warehouse because the ground was regular earth and mulch and so you’d dance and kinda bury your shoe into the soft ground which kinda sucked.
That didn’t stop anyone however. It had rained most of the day leading up to the rave so the air was pleasantly cool and that gave all the ravers motivation to get off their asses and shake em!
One point they had a Gabber artist play out in the outdoors area and I started doing Jumpstyle. Now a lot of people don’t know what Jumpstyle is in Florida so usually they come over to ask me what it is and how to do it and such but tonight’s case about 4 kids came over and started Jumping with me! I never did a multi-jump before and it was a blast! I wish it wasn’t in the dark woods or I would’ve had my girlfriend take a video of it!
Which reminds me: My girlfriend looked hot as fuck. She kept getting hit on the whole night, which she’s pretty used to at clubs and bars and such so it didn’t bother her. All my friends already at the rave were surprised to see her there and hung out with her and she seemed like she was having a great time. I loved how easily she fit right into the whole scene and it’s event.
Her and I managed to take a break away from all the friends and the party and run out into the cow fields to look up at the stars and moon. Out there we played around with the LEDs and tried to make shapes and things with a slow shutter speed on my camera and just relaxed, holding each other. It was nice…till some guy tripping his nuts off came over and tried to chat it up with us. He wasn’t a problem or anything, but I tried to drag her and I away from talking to him the minute I heard a very familiar song that I know only my buddy Noah J plays.
We ran across the field and hurried up to the outside bass area to see him spin. I kinda tricked her into getting deep into the main floor, which there everyone was dancing and it actually looked foolish NOT to dance (she’s a bit shy when it comes to dancing but we got her to dance a little every so often during the course of the night) so, with Blitz Kid on one side and me on the other, we got her to dance for a long long time. She’s a really good dancer, just not confident enough to not give a fuck who sees her dance. This time she was dancing it up with us and we heard Babydoll cheer for her from one of the dancing tables overlooking the crowd. It was great she loved it!
The final room we went into only because we were waiting to meet up with those we came with was this little tiny side tent area hardly anyone was in. Those 8 or so people that were in there were dancing really really fast, and I remember the guy I met earlier saying he spun Psytrance so maybe that’s what the kids were dancing to…nope…IT WAS HAPPY HARDCORE! Yes, Happy Hardcore actually happening at a Florida rave! Wesley and I bounced our freakin asses off in that area, even when I got tired and stopped for a moment he kept going saying “I can’t breathe…*pant*… but I’ve never heard this music before…*pant*…and it’s like….*pant*…you just can’t stop moving to it!” eventually his exhaustion caught up with him and he literally fell to the floor haha.
This party was absolutely fantastic. I had a wonderful time at this rave lemme tell ya. The lighting was great inside but needed to have at least SOME outside, the sound was REALLY great outside (so great that Ron had to actually go a few miles down to the neighbors house, sit in their living room, and talk to someone on the phone, telling them to lower the volume until all the picture frames and vases and stuff stopped vibrating from the bass so the cops could stop threatening to shut us down!) and the overall vibe was bumping like you wouldn’t believe. Really the only thing I could say was a bad thing that happened at that rave was the outside area’s floor was dirt and sticks and would get all stuck up in your shoes, which you KNOW that was a badass party if that was the only thing that was bad!
Seriously I never saw so many ravers dancing so hard in my life. Everyone was there for the music and the chance to hang out with new people. Now THAT was a party!

A few extra things that happened that night:
~I saw a bubble filled with smoke and some kid jumped up and popped it, sucking all the smoke up. It was then I realized it was a Hookah bubble and immediately went looking for one of my favorite socialization tools. This one guy had a small 1 foot tall hookah he was literally carrying around and would set it down in random areas for people to share. I immediately went over to him and hung out with him awhile while hitting the hookah. We actually had a lot in common. He was a newbie learning DJ who was trying to learn Psytrance and Happy Hardcore and he was supposed to spin some Psytrance in the small tent area later on (he did). He liked to trade Kandi, which is a rare thing to find in Florida for some reason (yet everyone LOVES my kandi chain wallet) and we spent many times in the night sitting around smoking hookah trying to give each other neat little tips and hints about either kandi making or hookah pipes.
~On the side of the warehouse building (where Revolution’s entrance was) was a guy projecting visuals on the wall. The only difference this time was one of the guys had a green laser pointer and when he shot it at the wall within the projection it literally wrote things out! Really neat thing I’ve never seen before!
~There was fire EVERYWHERE! Poi and Firestaffing was extremely common both inside and outside of the rave. People who were both good, bad, and even those who had no idea what they were doing yet wanted to give it a shot were towards the back of the dance floor just spinning away.
~The Fiber wire guy was back again! A really badass breaks DJ was spinning and out of the woods comes this completely dark shadowy figure. It looked really weird…then it started dancing….then it lit up as the blue guy! Everyone crowded around him so I didn’t really get anything good video wise or picture wise this time.

As great of a rave as this was I must say the one thing I truly became elated about this time was I finally feel like I’m established in this rave scene again. In the old days of Florida raves and the more recent times of the Vegas rave scene I would run into tons and tons of people that either new me personally or recognized me and I knew or recognized them. This rave, after going to quite a few since a year ago when I jumped back in trying to meet everyone I saw, that finally happened. I only met a handful of new people that night instead of tons of new people because majority of the people already knew me in some way. It was great having people walk by, stop, and go TOMMY DANGER! HEY DUDE!!! Once again. My roots are finally back in this Florida scene...and by golly it’s a great one.
