Lexi might have Lupus

Aug 19, 2008 09:31

I took my Girl Scouts to South Padre Island for our annual beach trip and while we were there Lexi's face started falling off. I don't know how else to describe it...pieces of her skin just started coming off. I took her to the Dermatologist today and they were perplexed (as usual) but really think she has Lupus. They took a biopsy and put two ( Read more... )

*hugs* that's crazy! my mom has lupus and has never had that kind of reaction. I'm not an expert, and I know that there's a correlation between a lupus-driven butterfly rash and sun exposure, but it doesn't look like that. I hope it's not lupus and I hope they figure out what it is immediately, if nto sooner.

*hugs back* I hope it's not lupus too, but none the less, she still has an auto-immune disease. It would be nice to know exactly what it is. I posted this in a reply below...

"They are waiting on the biopsy results but it seems that our next visit will be with a rheumatologist, which Lexi has not seen before. The dermatologist told me they are ordering an anticoagulant screeing test (she's never had this before either). Her rashes in the past presented as a "shingles" type rash. She has never had the typical butterfly rash. I've been on the lookout for it for years...ever since her non-specified AI diagnosis. We sort of just analyze symptoms as they come up. She was tested for celiac earlier this summer with a negative result. That test alone was $485, after insurance. It's a confusing and expensive world we live in, especially for people with chronic medical conditions. *sigh*

Oh, that pic was taken today and the spots look ten times better than when they first appeared last Wednesday. I started treating the spots while we were in SPI with her RX antibiotic cream and xylogel. At least they aren't oozing anymore.
