Summary: He doesn't have a choice.
Sayid wondered who he was. He looked too young to be a target, too innocent to be involved with Charles Widmore and his tangled web. With his preppy clothes and backpack, Sayid could have easily dismissed him as just another university student.
But he had the picture, and he had his assignment. Ben hadn't been clear on much, but there was one thing that he was always forthright about - if they had any hope at all of protecting those still on the Island, certain players must be eliminated.
The thought crossed his mind that Ben had all the control. A small but confident voice in his head told Sayid that he could just be using him to do his dirty work. This person - this kid - might not having anything to do with Widmore, or the freighter, or the Island. He could very well be the son of a competitor or someone who had snubbed him long ago. Or he could be a random person chosen by Benjamin Linus to see just how blindly Sayid would follow him.
As much as that thought disturbed him though, Sayid knew that he didn't have a choice. He had left friends on that Island, and he wouldn't let them down just because he didn't have all the answers.
"Ryan Feldman?"
The kid looked up from the guide book he was reading, the sun shining in his eyes and forcing him to squint.
"Do I know you?" he asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.
"No."
He drew the gun and pulled the trigger. As the silenced bullet ripped through Ryan's heart, Sayid turned and walked away, not even waiting for the kid to hit the ground.
