Their dinner is cold and daylight faded when his key finally scrapes the lock.
“You’re late.”
“I was working, Claire.”
Swallowing, she nods. “I bought some material today. It’s perfect for -”
“I’m tired, Claire,” he brushes past and she falls silent. “I’m going to bed.”
Later, she eases in beside him, careful not to stir. Running one hand over her swelling stomach, she tells their baby goodnight and smiles. Tomorrow she’ll put up the curtains she made and he’ll see just how pretty they look in the light.
It really isn’t his fault.
He just had a bad day.
