I've got a fever and the only cure is more BSG?

This week's episode is Act of Contrition. The usual guidelines apply! Series-wide spoilers are likely in both questions and comments. For interested newbies, we could always arrange some white-texting for spoilers; all you need to do is let me know in advance.

First things first: for the two-parters, I'm good either way. You're the one coming up with the discussion points, so whatever you think is best.

What do you think about how Lee has reacted to Starbuck's secret up to and including this episode?
I... uh... think "oops" when I think of Lee and this secret. I know Starbuck told it to him under duress, when she thought the world was about to end and she might as well confess her sins, but I don't know that we see enough of a reaction from him to be able to answer this question. This is really the first place it's discussed, and we don't get to see Lee and Starbuck talk about it. I understand why he pretty much spilled the beans to Bill in this episode -- it was a misunderstanding about what his dad already knew -- but I always think oh, fuck, keep quiet, Lee. He does a slippery bit of backpedaling with his whole insistence that Bill talk to Starbuck himself. I can't decide if I think it's hamfisted plot device or a more honest mistake. If it is a plot device, then it makes sense that he ( ... )

If it is a plot device, then it makes sense that he doesn't react more to her secret and to how badly it has to be affecting her performance as flight instructor. If it isn't, then.... he's under-written in this episode.

Yeah. I do think Lee's reaction is all pretty under-written. It's not as though he hasn't been shown interacting with Starbuck more than once since the miniseries, but we don't seem to get so much as reluctance or long looks around her in the meantime. I was kind of hoping to find out if it was just me or if anyone had theories about it being a part of his characterization they'd thought out.

This is the first episode where she really takes on a full multidimensional quality, I feel, and becomes fully human. She's a difficult character: I root for her, but I don't always agree with what she does or the way she does it. And still, my heart goes out to her.

That's almost exactly how I tend to think of her.

I agree with Laura that if word gets out, there will be unparalleled trouble. A mad scramble for power, at ( ... )

This week is insane for me, so I can't go into any detail. I just want to say this was an incredible Starbuck episode, especially in part II. I was captivated by all her actions and emotions. Prior to this episode, I wanted to love her, but she irritated me. From this point forward, I loved her even when she irritated me.

No worries!

And I felt the same way: after these two episodes, I couldn't do anything other than root wholeheartedly for Starbuck, even when I didn't agree with her. In AoC she's made human, and in YCGOA she absolutely shines.
