I'm actually not late!
Hi! I'm signed up under the name anythingbutblue, which is where you'll find me on both the old Yuletide archive and on AO3 if you're the friendly stalker type. I'll start this off with my usual disclaimer: I'll be so excited to get a story in any of these fandoms, so please don't stress out if none of these suggestions work for you. It'll be fine. Write something you can enjoy writing, and I promise I'll be thrilled to get it.
That said, this is the place to be if you want more suggestions and ideas.
In no particular order, here's what I love about my picks for this year:
Baccano!
I love the disjointed storytelling and the memorable ensemble cast. I love Nice and her thing for bombs, Isaac and Miria unintentionally spreading cheer, Ennis doing what she wants rather than what she's told to do, Luck as the face of the Gandors, that unapologetic psycho Ladd and his I'll kill you last affection for Lua, but I may love Chane and Claire the most. She can't speak, and he has plenty to say. She's willing to put her life on the line, and he's willing to take as many as he has to. He proposed on their first meeting, and she carved a message to him on the roof of a train. They will never be ordinary, and I would expect the day of their wedding to be an epic adventure. If that doesn't do it for you, I'd be equally happy with fic about any of the characters I mentioned above.
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
The canon relationship between Alice and Uncas is subtle, and I'd love to see it given some attention. Let's face it: Alice was not the juicy role. Alice isn't what I look for in a heroine, but she's still a character I can believe. She starts off pampered, not wanting for much, then really goes through hell and spends much of the movie in a fragile state, understandably overwhelmed by what's going on around her. We get glimpses of Uncas showing real tenderness to her, and it's such a lovely thing in the midst of that chaos and violence. The sequence set to music toward the end of this movie never fails to give me goosebumps: from Hawkeye shooting Duncan to spare him further pain to Uncas fighting and being killed to Alice watching it happen and turning those haunted eyes on Magua right before she steps off the cliff. Breathtaking. If Alice/Uncas doesn't work for you, how about something gen and focused on the Munro sisters?
Little Women (Louisa May Alcott)
I love the March sisters and their adventures and their love for each other and how they make mistakes and don't always get along. I love Jo and Laurie, probably the first fictional couple I ever fell for, and despite my grand love of the entire series, to this day it still doesn't quite sit right with me that they failed to get together in the end. I'm not asking for fix-it fic (not that I'd say no if that's what ends up compelling you), but I would love to read about Laurie's post-proposal life and how he came to terms with Jo's rejection and eventually grew to love Amy. Really, I am so open to possibilities with this canon: give me a character study or a Christmas story or a bittersweet family outing. I have such a long-term soft spot for these characters; you'd have to try your hardest not to delight me.
30 Rock
I have never requested 30 Rock fic before. I have never even read 30 Rock fic before. It's possible this will make me the easiest audience ever. But I love Liz Lemon and I love Tina Fey and I can always use a laugh and I don't think I'm at all gifted in writing comedy, so here we are. I mentioned in my request that I haven't seen any of this season yet and I don't expect that to change by the reveal, but I liked Carol the pilot and thought he and Liz were kind of cute. If you want to work some second date fun with him into her daily life at 30 Rock, I'll love it. If you want to take Carol out of the equation entirely and just write about the usual cast of characters, I'll love it just as much. (See? Easy.) Write me gen, write me wacky romance, whatever: the thing I want most out of this request is Liz and that 30 Rock feel and every week lived like it's shark week.
As always, I am a huge sucker for characterization and character voices. I love fanfic that feels like a missing piece, like a chapter or episode that could be held up to canon and fit right in. I like slice-of-life character pieces, banter between friends or lovers, and really tight friendships forged in unlikely circumstances. When it comes to sex, I prefer no rape or incest.
Thank you in advance, author, and enjoy yourself! I'm so looking forward to reading!
