I'm going to show you the time of your life.

And as her nerviously ascends to the seat of the class, he swallows the convulsions of foreboding. He raises his head, and begins.

Is this glass half empty or half full, I ask you? We’ve been here at Hopkins for three years, and if you do the math, we’re half way done with our Hopkins career. So, I ask you, is the glass half empty of half full? I hold that our glass is not half empty, but half full. We’ve had many successes in the past years. Is organizing a huge fund-raiser for three years and coming out extremely lucrative each time, only half empty? Is amassing approximately 5,000 dollars in our bank account half-empty? Is organizing a dance, against all odds, in freshman year and coming out in the green still half empty? I think these examples, and many others, all contribute to the idea that our class is far from half-empty at this milestone. In fact, we’re more than half full. We’ve done more than we should, and I’m proud to say such. And so now I stand before you today, asking you to vote for me, to allow our class to continue with the tradition of over-achieving and becoming everything that we can be. If elected, first on my agenda to better our class is to get a jump-start on a community service project. Granted, we’ve been planning to do such for many years, but this year it going to be our year, no excuses. I’ve thought it over, and our problem was we were being far too precocious, and so we are going to start at a smaller level, something like raising funds for disaster relief in Florida or something on that scale. It’s imperative that we give back to the community, especially considering all that they have given us, and so this is why we must be compelled do finally finish such an endeavor.
Simultaneously, if elected, I will be working to get the Semi for our class to host. The ‘ownership’ of hosting the Semi is up in the air, and after talking to a few of the officers in the other classes, a few aren’t interested and those that are will be our competition, however, I promise that if elected, I will try my hardest to get such a privilege as hosting the semi. The Semi is a great way to increase revenues without expending much. The returns are high on such a school-wide event, and one that holds promise of attendance year after year. And if elected, and fight for the semi for our class, I promise it will be the best on Hopkins has seen in years. I’ve already put great thought into it, and with your help, it will be great.
After those two goals are completed, my next item on my timeline I’ve created for our class will be to organize another fund-raiser. But this time, I think it’s time we move away from the overused ‘Hypnotist.’ However great it was, and how lucrative it turned out to be, people are not so apt to continue to see the same thing year after year, and so with your help, we will think of a new fund-raiser, one that is novel and interesting as well as lucrative. This will take a lot of thought, but I promise that if elected, I’ll put all of my efforts into bettering our class, in this way and others.
Next, we will move onto dues. Dues are quintessential in increasing our funds, since it is the only guaranteed form of revenue. I promise to make dues appropriate to our status at the time as well as our class opinion, to ensure that everyone will be willing to pay. Also, I plan to think of a new way of collecting dues, to revamp the old way of just asking everyday for them until, hopefully, the procrastinator gives the dues. Whether it be in installments or another idea, my officers and I will work to find a better way that will work with our class to collect dues in a more ‘oiled’ fashion.
Also, if elected, I will focus my efforts on the last major bullet on my timeline: prom ’06. As some of you may know, it is the junior class that holds prom. However, since every school in the area has prom at relatively the same period, it is essential to begin organizing in mid-spring, by picking the prom location, meal, and such frameworks. I’ve done research by talking to other officers on how prom organization works, so with that knowledge I promise to help make our prom great. I’ll make sure it is everything each and every one of you envision by setting up a prom committee and I will make sure we do our research on the location and such so we know exactly what we are getting into.
Finally, you all know me. You all know how much this position means to me and how serious I take it. I wouldn’t have put so much thought throughout the summer if I didn’t and I wouldn’t have represented our class since 5th grade if I didn’t. I want what is best for our class, and I think I can get the job done. Think back. In the broad picture, have you ever been unsatisfied? I’m not running for both student council and president for one reason: to focus my 100% on you, not split my focus on two separate arenas that should be kept separate. If fused, it would be like fusing the judicial and legislative branch, which should not be done. It violates checks and balances, and can create confusion and inevitably, less work accomplished. This was evident in 8th grade, when I selfishly tried such. I know now that it doesn’t work, and you all know how 8th grade ran. So, I stand before you today, asking you not to vote for me necessarily, but to vote for what you think is best for the class. Remember, the glass is half full, but we still have a whole another half. To my class of 2007, choose as you see fit.

Elections are today. Vote for me!
