dont let the rumors daunt you. just find someone youre comfortable with being your friend. its not a perfect system, but you want to be with someone you could hang out with even if you werent going out with them.

then again, what do i know? i havent "dated" in more than i year; more, in fact. fight the power. dont rush things. and never go on "dates". those suck. "go out and do something fun". now THATS hot.

(the keyboard im typing on has a warning on how to avoid serious injury. you know, after they got sued by all those people with crippling injuries from keyboards. they bite, you know.)

i hope my advice hasnt been of any help to you, only because my advice sucks. do what makes you feel good.
