Been in SF for a little over 2 weeks now. Much better than being in TN, certainly. I am still having a very frustrating and aggravating time finding work. Of course I have accounts on nearly every job finding site you can imagine (both industry and non), but I find that nearly all the suggestions I get from such sites are all either scams or ( Read more... )

The NPH totally would not do that. traceroo February 19 2008, 20:04:41 UTC
Are you going to the Game Developers' Conference this week? Gamasutra has been riddled with articles over the past few weeks about making the most of your job hunt there.

Dallas is apparently the American voiceover capital of the world.

It is exceptionally expensive to get in. I was dumb and did not bring my student id, and that is the only way to get cheap tickets.

You never know, it might be like Dragon*Con with lots of public areas where you can hang out without a badge. It's probably worth heading down there anyhow, just in case.

You should talk to technoir about voice over work. I know that he's been doing a lot of podcasts, and might have some tips.

Ok. Will do. I don't have his email - suppose I could just contact him on here.

OK, here's his take:

Search around for voice actors who advertise as teachers. He didn't say, but I'd imagine that you could check trade publications or the paper to find them.

After getting a name, contact AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and double check that the person offering to teach in legit.

Take their class if they check out. In his words "all will blossom from there". *grin*
