Oh my Queen, I bring Hurley, riding in in the Luau Van of Much Squee, to bring you camera!fic. And hopefully to cheer you up. :]

Title: Say Cheese
Rating: PG. Tops.
Characters/Pairings: Most of the main cast, in one way or another. Gen.
Summary: Hurley takes a picture just before rescue.
Spoilers/Warnings: I took into account the Season 3 Finale.
Notes: *points up* See that title? Yes, you can say "cheese," and you can say "cheesy." It's got a fairly high fluff to angst ratio. Hopefully the fluff's believable, but goodness knows it's there. Also (oh gosh) I realized, halfway through, that I had changed tenses. Now you can view this as some kind of artistic choice and I sure won't stop you, but truthfully it was a mistake. I'll try to revise it tomorrow, but right now I'm about to be booted off the computer, and I wanted to have this posted today. :]

"We know what it means." Sawyer announced from his position in the back of the group, his eyebrows raised. "Maybe we just don't want to 'scoot.' We never said we liked each other particularly."

Hurley sighed. Maybe the castaways didn't want to scoot, but it wasn't because of any particular animosity. It was because, as Desmond had pointed out to him in a spurt of philosophy, once they took this picture it was over. Once they took this picture they would all get on the boat and leave, and things would never be quite the same again.

Of course, then Desmond had wandered off with a distant look in his eyes, muttering about fine wine and Penny, but he'd had a point, whether or not he was a couple peanuts short of a Mr. Goodbar. The dynamics that existed between people on this island would never exist between them in the real world. Not in a million years. Hurley glanced up to find that not a single person had scooted. He fought the urge to groan. He had been the laidback dude for the past two and a half years on this island, and he wasn't about to ruin that image on their very last day.

Normally he might look to Jack to get everyone in the frame, but Jack was busy glancing sideways at Kate, and Kate was busy inching her hand toward Jack's looking like she was positive she was going to regret it in about three seconds. And while Hurley could almost guarantee she wouldn't regret it, if those sideways glances were anything to go by, right now he was more concerned with making sure he didn't cut the top of Jack's head off in the shot, not how will Jack and Kate's romance would go off-island.

"Alright, look dudes, we're leaving today, so you might was well just --"

There was some general shuffling that got him absolutely nowhere and then Sawyer spoke up from the back row.

"Alright people, c'mon. Give Tubbo what he wants."

After two and a half years, Tubbo was almost endearing. Almost.

Sawyer reached a hand out and made a few choice comments in the direction of those on the fringe (c'mon Blondie -- c'mon Juliet I'm talkin' to you), and to those who needed to lean down in the back row. He even crouched himself.

Hurley grinned, then glanced through the viewfinder of the camera provided to him by the captain of the rescue ship. He had been given some strange looks when he'd made his request, though not by the castaways. Only by their rescuers, who couldn't seem to understand why anyone would want to remember being stranded in this "godforsaken place." Which was a good point, except that it wasn't. Really.

"Sun, could you, like, move over? Yeah. Okay, that's pretty good. Uh, yeah. Okay."

Sun had taken an obliging two steps toward the center of the photograph, Jin's hand warmly but protectively (some things never change, do they?) around her waist. Kate reached out with the hand that hadn't found Jack's moments before and slipped her arm around Sun's shoulders.

"Okay. So say cheese." Hurley says finally, fumbling for a minute with the camera's timer. "Okay. Okay now say cheese."

He scurries forward into the shot, squeezing in behind Claire and next to Sawyer. Jack stands on Sawyer's other side, fingers now firmly entwined with Kate's, and Sawyer had maneuvered Juliet to stand just in front of him. At the last minute Sawyer and Jack both moved grudgingly, and at the same time, to put their arms around each other's shoulders. Claire stood with Desmond beside her, holding a happily grinning Aaron at her hip.

Hurley does say cheese, but Claire says "seagulls," and then when the flash doesn't go off right away, "Charlie," and Sawyer says "polar bear" and Desmond says "hatch!" with a kind of nutty over-confidence. Jack seems to be counting under his breath, to five, and Kate's counting backward from it.

"Would you two get the hell onto the same page." Sawyer mutters, and that is what he's saying as the camera flashes.
