Who is that? [The question snaps out like a whip.] Your wife?

[There is an odd expression on Javert's face, unlike one Charlie has seen on his boss before. It is marked by tightened weariness tugging on lean features, with a crag of puzzlement coloring the furrow in his brow.]

You are very cheerful for a man who has left his wife behind.

Uuuuuh.... [Charlie stretches out the awkward sound, a little unsure of how to continue. But seeing as how he respects Javert more than anyone else in Somarium and sees him as a mentor...]

No, she's not my wife. Not yet. Didn't exactly, uh, have time for that before I drowned, you know?

And it's not that I'm cheerful that I left her behind, mate. I didn't have much of a choice in that. I just don't see the point in sitting around and mopin' while I wait for her to end up here.

[An eyebrow floats up, but he does not comment. Ah, yes, that's right. Charlie was another one who met a watery grave. Not of his own accord, but it is a similar idea, at least.

Besides, it would be skating a line of hypocrisy of Javert to judge Charlie for not wedding that woman before knocking her up.

Javert's countenance is grim, his eyes drifting, perplexed, to the sky. His voice is careful, controlled and indifferent.]

Is that what you believe?

[Charlie is oblivious to Javert's own current situation and thoughts, so he continues on just believing the older man to just be genuinely curious about his life.]

Well, yeah, of course. I know she'd be bloody pissed off if she knew I wasted all of my time here just missing her and accomplishing nothing.

[He frowns a little at the thought.] I'd much rather keep her happy. I can't handle her when she's angry. She's small, but ruthless. Hits hard too.

(Before Wrath witnesses the human tenderness between a wife and husband at the end of the dream, he hears the ear-splitting noise of the one note from the musical instrument. Wretched. The noise sours his impression of the reunion, and he growls out an inquiry to the dreamer.)

Is your wife still here or is she still on your homeworld?

[Javert is one thing, but he's not about to embarrass himself or Claire for a stranger.]

She's still back home. [...Well, she better be.] Hasn't made an appearance in Somarium yet.

[Charlie's a little taken back at first. Because yeah, duh.]

Yeah, of course, but who wouldn't miss a smile like that?

[Isabelle, for lack of knowing what to say, just grins. Maybe because it was just too sweet that he's so attached to the woman in the dream, and Izzy's always been a bit of a romantic.]

[This is his I-am-all-business tone.] I hope you aren't secretly laughing at me for such a cheesy dream, Ms. Isabelle.

Of course not. If anything, I love cheesy dreams. And if I were laughing at you, it wouldn't be a secret. [she's teasing now.]

[And that gets a cheerful laugh out of the man.]

I shouldn't expect anything less from you.
