Biking To Work

Jun 20, 2007 21:30

So, one of my co-workers asked me if I had gotten my bike yet yesterday, and I agreed to try the ride to work today with him as my trail guide ( Read more... )

My bike was stolen a couple of years ago. (bastards)
You're making me want to replace it!

It's certainly worth having a bike around here. I know how hard it is to want to replace something that's been stolen. Three times I bought CD players for my car and EVERY time my car was broken into and it was stolen... so, no more CD players for me (no, not even the ones with the removable face plates). ;)

What kind of lock were you using? I think I'm gonna buy a new one, my bike is 15 years old so it doesn't make much value but...

Umm... *embarassed face* it wasn't locked.
It was in the basement of my apartment building...
Yeah, I know, I was a dumb ass for trusting that it would be safe.

It was a shitty bike. It wasn't worth anything. But it was the first "adult" bike that my folks got for me when I was 10, so it meant a lot to me, you know?

At the moment I have to drive 10 miles to work, so it's not really bikable, but I'd really like to be able to bike to my closer haunts. Perhaps it's time to start shopping on craigslist...

You aren't a dumb ass for expecting people not to steal from you.

I put mine in my unlocked garage here, I really have no other great option. I think it's fair of me to expect no one will open my garage and steal my bike.

Oh, and my bike is the exact same thing, the "adult" bike my parents bought me. I'd be sad to loose it.

Yep, craigs list and free cycle are the way...

And there is a grocery store near here and because of the road layout it takes like nearly 10 minutes to drive there, but only a few to bike there! Convient for last minute items... the co-op is bikable, but only if I have a lot of extra time.

I love biking to work (and everywhere else). Granted, I haven't biked since the tire on the bike I'm borrowing went flat, but since I'm close enough to walk I still get excercise on my way to work.

Wish Phoenix had lovely bike trails like yours, though. I mean, there probably are a few, but not that I know of and certainly not on my way to work.

I'd look here: http://phoenix.gov/DISCOVER/AROUND/BICYCLING/index.html

someone where I work was kind enough to give me a city of madison biking map... I bet you could get one there too. Just not sure where..

This isn't currently the case, with my 25-mile-each-way-mostly-through-rural commute, but every previous job I've had, after a few weeks of riding, it was only taking me fifteen minutes longer, max, to ten minutes shorter, to ride to work, compared to driving. It was beyond awesome to save time and exercise.

My drive was only taking about 10 minutes, so I doubt I can get down to ten minutes shorter. ;)

Thanks for the info. I'm sure it'll get easier once I'm more used to it.

This may seem like a retarded question, what do you bring for rain?

I live in Colorado... It rained last in, what, April? But with that said, generally I have a sort of windbreaker that I've had for, jeez, 20 years? and it crams up into the bag under the seat that also contains my spare tube, bike light, repair stuff.

Yeah, it did end up thunder storming here this evening, fortunately I had prearranged for Jason to come and get me if that happenned.

I think next time I will be more careful, though there's always other options for me to get home for the most part.

I'm still gonna ride tomorrow, ... I really like it!

Josh has gotten me to go biking with him. Last Thursday was my first time on a bike in about 25 years. I went 20 miles with him from Prospect & Brady all the way to north to Green Tree Road and back...and only my butt was hurting from the bike seat--the rest of me was fine. I was not sore at all.On Sunday we went all the way to the end of Grant Park in Cudahy and back--30 miles! It felt good! The bike trails are beautiful. We went another 20 miles last night and are planing to go out again tomorrow night. I think he's got me obsessed now. LOL. But that's ok, because I *really* need to lose weight and get in shape, and what an awesome way to do it!

I heard that the bike trail that goes along the lake here goes ALL the way down to Chicago. Now THAT'S hardcore biking.

Maybe someday. :P I was actually wondering if there was any way to bike from Madison to Milwaukee... maybe next summer!

I've ridden the last three days, and I love it... so I hope I keep it up.

Civ 4 is evil. I got caught up in the first game that I actually won that took about 10 hours to finish.

I've been wanting to get a bike again myself, as soon as I can afford one without feeling guilty about spending the money when I have so many other things to pay for. Someday.

Go used... I mean, my bike is 15 years old and works fine.

Even if it's temporary (till you can afford something better)... or... go on free cycle or craigs list and see if you can find someone who has one just sitting around.

Civ IV is slightly evil... yes.
