End of the Year Survey 2010

Dec 24, 2010 09:43

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Hmmm, this year wasn't very full of newness.  I've never worked at the UW Law Library before I guess, I never knitted a hat, I never wrote multi table sequel query.  Mostly it was just a lot of continuation of everything I was doing last year.  Oh yeah, a year of keeping a  truly vegan diet (well, except for honey - which I ate very rarely) , yey!

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

My goal last year was to listen more and talk less, don't think I managed to do that at all.  I think this will be a resolution free year, I usually pick something but I think my goal will be not to let wedding and job hunt drive me bonkers.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

A couple acquaintances, but no one close.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No

5. What countries did you visit?

None.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

An MLS, a marriage license, uh those are pretty attainable at this point.  Certainly want to spend more time working on projects of my own choosing and spending time with friends.  Yes, of course I would like a job in my field, but I'm certainly not counting on it.  After May I should have time to rejoin the SCA and get re involved with UU.

Strangely I made a list a few years ago of what I wanted by 35 and I think I might get everything - assuming I live.

7. What date(s) from 2010 will remain etched your memory, and why?

Night hikes, many nights with Jason taking walks in Spooftonia will probably blur together but... my practicum presentation, WW (and hanging with archer scum & Blue), my birthday with the sparklers, new years party last year was super fun, the night out at Inferno with Jason's sister, The day at Renn Faire with with Leslie, Blair, Dick, Jason. and another friend, the SLIS party, Amber's visit (again)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Doing well in school  (and at minimum making myself FINISH projects) when I had no motivation and wanted to quit.  Not letting discouragement stop me for more than few days.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not maintaining friendships as well as I would have liked, not doing as much with LITA as I would have liked

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Um, I would have said no until about a week ago, I've had pretty severe (for me) lower back pain since Sunday, - no idea what is going on - apparently this happens to old people ;)

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Yarn, nearly all my money went towards food.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

What, where?  I haven't been paying attention.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I'd be pissed at WI voters, but really I'm more pissed at all ya'll who didn't vote.  Fuck you Scott Walker.  (*ahem)

14. Where did most of your money go?

Food, Food, Food

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

I wasn't super excited this year (that doesn't sound food), um, probably getting the tickets for Queen Mary II

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2010?

This was a weird music year for me

Lady Gaga - anything (yeah, I know, sorry)
Apex Twin - but they remind me of many years

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?

Same, perhaps a tiny bit happier - lets just say it's on a general upswing for several years running

ii. thinner or fatter?

I really don't know, about the same I think

iii. richer or poorer?

Same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Exercising, cooking, spending time outside, more time with friends (wow, I can pretty much just leave this here forever)

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Been down on myself, talked too much

20. Any new hobbies/interests?

Knitting

21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?

I think we're going to a close friends house this year for just a very small group rather than a big party, (vegan) deep fry party - sweet potato fries for the win

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?

I am so in love it would gross you out if I was vocal about it

23. How many one-night stands?

None

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Mythbusters, Tailor Park Boys, Pushing Up Daisies

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Not basing my self worth on employment.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?

Practical

34. What kept you sane?

Jason - don't think I could have done this grad school thing with out him, the cats, and definitely podcasts

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Honestly, I'm really not into celebrity right now

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

Mid Term Election, gay rights, the train or lack there of, the tax cuts

37. Who did you miss?
(this is pretty much my answer from last year, AND the year before AND the year before that)

All my Milwaukee Peeps, I didn't have as much time to miss people this year

38. Who was the best new person you met?

It's hard to say... probably Kevin (and his partner)  and David (and his gf Rachel) (friends from SLIS)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:

If I really try I actually can fight my own nature to sabotage myself when I am doing well, sometimes you can fight through your fear of failure and still fail but you find out failure was actually better than not trying  at all

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Don't want to close my eyes,
I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I'd miss you babe
And I don't want to miss a thing

(the Pomplamoose version)
