One Thousand Pictures

A picture’s worth a thousand words
And I painted a thousand pictures to explain
So I’ll keep on talking until I forget how to breathe
A picture’s hanging on my mirror
And it’s the one that I can’t explain
I’ll keep on painting until I forget that picture
Or until I find better words to say
Than “I’ve gotten lost, please show me the way,”

I’ll just try to explain, and my tongue gets tied in knots
Like it did before I started painting
Pictures of the life that I wished I live
I’ll leave while you remain, and pretend that I’ve forgotten
Everything I’ve left behind and blocked out
Pictures of the life that I used to live

Once I had walked a thousand miles
And I had never stepped foot outside the door
Of my house, I paced around my bedroom floor
Until I wore myself down
In my own hole in the ground I painted
The only picture that I recognized
It was me, and I hung it on my mirror
It’s what I still can’t explain

I’ll just try to tell you, and my words come out as useless tunes
Pretty to hear but they just don’t make sense
But they sound like the song I used to sing
I’ll just try to let go, and my hands just feel liked they’re still glued
Still burning me but my screams come out in tunes
And they sound like the song I used to sing

I’ll just try to explain, and my tongue gets tied in knots
Like it did before I started painting
Pictures of the life that I wished I live
I’ll leave while you remain, and pretend that I’ve forgotten
Everything I’ve left behind and blocked out
Pictures of the life that I used to live
