Title: I'll Be Seeing You Author: lotherington ’Verse: Long Ago and Far Away Fandom: Sherlock Characters/Pairing: John/Sherlock Summary: WWII AU. March, 1944. John visits Bletchley and meets an acquaintance of Sherlock's. Rating: PG-13 Word Count: ~2,700 Notes: The title is from I'll Be Seeing You.
‘James Moriarty,’ Moriarty said, with a wide smile. ‘Hi.’ Ah, fuck. I WAS SO HAPPY NOT TO SEE HIM IN THIS 'VERSE and oh nooooo, boys. D:
*Just. Hugs the boys.* Thank fuck for modern day times where (in fanon) they can snog in public and probably just get fake gagging from others (if not outright cooing).
Oh, boys, how sad. I like how you have them snapping at each other then recovering, frustrated with the situation but not letting it get the better of them.
Also, I love Moriarty here - you've definitely picked up on his sly suggestiveness that's totally baldfaced and innocent on the surface, but contains so much knowing within. Plus, Jimmy! Love.
So glad you liked Moriarty! I rarely write him but he fits so well into this 'verse that I couldn't not include him. I had a lot of fun with his false innocence - that's exactly how I was writing it so I'm thrilled you particularly enjoyed that. Thank you very much, love!
Why is it a lie that John's hand shakes because of nerve damage? Or did I misunderstand that line?
I actually find this installment quite sad, in that they aren't able to enjoy a simple afternoon together just talking and wandering around a quaint little town. I understand that it is frustrating that they can't display their affection openly, but that it would put such a strain on their interactions, or that their relationship should be so dependent on adrenaline and oxytocin seems to lessen what they have.
I know they have plenty of quiet moments and afternoons and days together back in London, where they are happy just being near each other, so clearly their relationship is really more than that. Moriarty showing up certainly didn't help here, either. I hope John isn't jealous, because it's obvious that Sherlock can't stand the man.
No, you didn't misunderstand! I've written his tremor as of psychosomatic origin here - it isn't actually nerve-damaged - but John being as proud as he is he doesn't want to let on.
I think it's a combination of factors - primarily that they get very little time together - that makes this afternoon feel 'wasted' for them. They certainly wouldn't be as on edge, during peacetime, I don't think. :)
As always, thank you for your thoughts and comments - they're very much appreciated. <3
